Bipolar Disorder
WHAT IS IT?
Bipolar Disorder (formally called Manic Depressive Disorder) is a chronic mental health condition with mood swings going from extreme highs (euphoria high energy, reduced sleep, anger, racing thoughts or reckless behaviors) to extreme depression (sadness, hopelessness, low energy, low concentration or suicidal thoughts). It often runs in families. Bipolar Disorder affects relationships, work and school performance.

TREATMENT STRATEGY
It is treated with mood stabilizers and antipsychotics. There are tests to see which pharmaceuticals are best suited to the client. Cognitive behavioral therapy works well with with Bipolar Disorder. We have therapists who deal with Bipolar Disorder as well as a psych nurse practitioner (APRN) to oversee medications
